Introduction

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, an organization of civilian volunteers, was established by Congress in June, 1939, to assist the Coast Guard in promoting boating safety. It is composed of more than 30,000 members from all walks of life who are drawn together by their love of the water and a willingness to serve other boaters.

Auxiliary members receive special training so that they may be an important, functional part of Team Coast Guard (active duty, reserves and Auxiliary). Being an Auxiliarist will add a new dimension to your boating activities and enable you to share in the worthwhile experience of assisting boaters and saving lives.

Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law-enforcement programs such as public education, safety patrols, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, aids to navigation, watch standing, and more. Auxiliary members volunteer approximately 2-million hours annually to benefit other boaters and their families.

Auxiliary activities and this web site are dedicated to the safety of the commercial and recreational boating public.

About Hiawatha Division 2

Where We Are:

The membership of Hiawatha Division 2 of the Eighth Western Rivers Region, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, is geographically located in an area that includes Menonomie, Chippewa Falls, and La Crosse Wisconsin to the North and East; Yankton, South Dakota and New Ulm, Minnesota to the West; and Waterloo and Lansing, Iowa to the South.

The flotillas of Division 2 include the following (click on the flotilla name for more information):

On the inland waterways, Division 2 is assigned a 170-mile area of responsibility (AOR) on the Upper Mississippi River (UMR) from the Lake Pepin Head Light (UMR mile 785.4) to Lock #10 (UMR mile 615.1, near Guttenberg, Iowa). On the Missouri River, our AOR is from mile 835 to mile 804 and Lewis and Clark Lake.

Who We Are:

Each member of Division 2 provides skills that are as widely varied as their geographic location. Backgrounds include finance, manufacturing, forestry, fire fighting, teaching, administration, marketing, and many more. Although the specific talents may not necessarily apply directly to every one of our Coast Guard Auxiliary activities, the diversity sure makes our get-togethers interesting and fun!
