Boating Safety Classes for 2007

Boating Safely (Rochester, Minnesota):
Course Description:
This basic boating course is intended for novice boaters ages 12 and up. Topics to be covered include: safe boating practices, legal requirements, boating regulations, boating skills, and terminology. This is a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary public education course and satisfies the Minnesota State Requirements for a youth's watercraft operator's permit. Class fee includes the required textbook. Parents of youth under age 14 should consult with the instructor before registering their child for the class. Co-sponsored with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

$35.00 for eight hours (four two-hour sessions). Fee includes course materials.

America's Boating Course (Winona, Minnesota):
Course Description:
America's Boating Course (ABC) is a 9 hour basic boating course designed to appeal to hunters, anglers, personal watercraft operators and other boaters who cannot find time for a full, comprehensive course. The course addresses the following topics: Introduction to Boating; Boating Laws; Boating Safety Equipment; Safe Boating; Navigation; Boating Problems; Trailering, Storing and Protecting Your Boat; Hunting and Fishing; Water-skiing and River Boating. Some insurance companies will offer a discount on boat insurance to those boaters who complete the course and successfully pass an exam. An individual who successfully completes the course and exam is awarded a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary certificate. The course is recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard and approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). Students, age 12-16, who attend the course and successfully pass the test, may submit an Application for Minnesota Watercraft Operator's Permit. A parent of a student, age 12-16, is required to be present with the student. Both student and parent need to register and pay for the class.
